Thai Traditional Dress: Applying Concepts into Practice Project

You can be an ambassador of Thailand in promoting Thai culture to international tourists with the use of traditional dress.  Meanwhile, you can learn more about the history of the Thai traditional dresses in each era and applying such knowledge to create your own cultural identity.

To achieve the goal of the International Program in Hotel and Tourism Management at Siam University in applying concepts into practices, the students in the program are encouraged on a voluntary basis to wear Thai traditional dress when visiting the cultural and historical attractions in Thailand. Since physical evidence, and servicescape are important in enhancing tourist experience, the program would like our students to empirically test the concept of servicescape with the use of Thai traditional dress in enhancing tourist experience in a group project.

According to the feedback of students in our previous classes, there is a service gap between advertisements about Thailand showing Thai people in traditional dress at major tourist attractions and the real world. Since nowadays, almost all Thai people have no longer been dressed in Thai traditional dress to work as shown in the ads, we encourage you to search for the right dress at the right era when visiting Thai historical attractions as part of your field trip with our program.

Moreover, you are required to conduct a research project by surveying tourists and report the result to your classmates on the impact of Thai traditional dress on the  willingness of tourists to participate in your survey.  The feedback will be used to enhance student learning and instructor's teaching and research techniques for the next classes.
